Astana. May 31. KazTAG - President of RK Nursultan Nazarbayev proposed to create a special commission at the Council of religious leaders with a purpose of developing recommendations for the UN, agency correspondent reports.
"The work on the establishment of a special commission, under the auspices of the Council of religious leaders, which would develop recommendations to the UN and to all concerned agencies and states on overcoming global problems and reducing the conflict, seems possible,"- Nursultan Nazarbayev said at the closure of the IV Congress of leaders of world and traditional religions.
He proposed to "broadcast experience" of the Congress in Astana at the level of nation states, as well as separate regions distinguished by a rich ethno-religious diversity and a high potential for conflict.
As previously reported, IV Congress of leaders of world and traditional religions in Astana began its work on May 30. The main plenary session of congress was devoted to the theme "Peace and harmony as a choice of mankind."
The board of world religious leaders, created within the frames of the IV Congress, consists of 14 people, including 4 representatives of Islam and 4 representatives of Christianity. Besides, the board includes representatives of Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism and Shintoism.
The congress is an initiative of the President of RK Nursultan Nazarbayev and is held in Astana every 3 years. Among the participants are representatives of the faiths of Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Taoism, Shintoism, Hinduism, as well as major international organizations.
I Congress was held in Astana on 23-24 September 2003. It was attended by religious leaders and honorary guests from 13 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
